Storyboard Cue Cards

The Home Safety Ambassador 101 lesson plan is getting a refresh, starting with the Meeting Place storyboard.

Each storyboard now has its own set of Cue Cards: large-print 8½ × 11 sheets that attach to the back of the board with magnets. Facilitators stand behind the board and read straight from them, while the children only see the scene.

What's on each set

  • Overview card: the board, every piece with a count, key messages, learning outcomes and how to set up the storyboards

  • Script cards: what to say, questions to ask and answers to listen for, with a picture of each piece beside its questions

  • Wrap-up: closing words and the lead-in to escape practice

Phase 1 storyboards and cutouts. And it all began with the dreaded Velcro dots. I feel sorry for the early adopters coming in before the new technology to produce the kit in fully magnetic material.

Check out the set up we like to do when demoing. Also we’ve finally nailed the solution to the Velcro dots by upgrading to a fully magnetic setup. I’m describing the Velcro issue that bothered me the most, dreading that this is just the way it has to be. This was just weeks before we vamped up production.

Meet the new Fire-ED transport case

Your Teaching Toolkit has a new home, and it's built for the way you actually move this program around.

Take a look through the photos:

• Heavy-duty material. The case is made from the same kind of material used for emergency and firefighter equipment bags, with a reflective stripe and the Fire-ED logo up front so it's easy to spot in the bay or the back of the truck.

• Three storyboards per case, two cases per kit. The boards slide in flat behind the organizer flap, protected on every side. Each case also has room for one more storyboard, so if you add the Wildfire Edition, its two extra boards slot right in with no extra case needed.

• Zippered pouches for every scene. No more Ziploc bags. Each scene's pieces live in their own clear-front pouch, so you can see what's inside and grab the one you need.

• Pouches lift…

Welcome to the Teaching Toolkit group, your home base for everything inside the case. This is where we unpack the kit piece by piece: the storyboards, the hands-on components, the lesson plans, and how it all fits together for a great session. You'll also get first word on upgrades, like the move to fully magnetic pieces and the new carrying case, plus a look at what's in development next. Ask how something works, share how you set up and pack your kit, and tell us what you'd love to see added. Your ideas help shape where the Toolkit goes from here.
